The land Iguanas of the Pacific coastal region of Costa Rica are quite common and, for the most part, rather drab. This guy was hanging out on a Mangrove root and caught my attention while I was shooting the Great-tailed Grackle I recently posted in avian. His coloration reminded me of the Turquoise jewelry of the southwestern US.

Thanks for looking!
Good to be back on NPN.

3 commentsExcellent detail & what an interesting mix of colors/patterns Neil!
It does remind one of turquoise jewlery from the southwest, I agree..
Great profile portrait of this species
Hi Neil,
Nice to see you back on NPN...your contributions are always appreciated.
Well...no one would claim that this iguana is drab! Both the detail and colour are great. Ya gotta love that scale pattern around the mouth - just striking. I guess in a perfect world it would have been nice if the subject chose to pose in front of a little more subdued background, but I guess he/she didn't get the memo!
Nicely done...cheers...
Brad
Excellent detail and I like the head-turn. Wonderful turquoise tones.
