This is a Stellar Sealion lounging on Sucia Island just north of Orcas Island. While on a whale watching trip we passed a haulout (seen in previous posts) and were able to get nice and close to these massive sealions.

A great feeling of comfort in this one. I loike the muted light and the detail is great
Neat pose with those flappers folded to the front, nice profile head position as it looks up too.
Great comp that includes the sea & sky, and the volcanic rock perch adds lots of interest Luke.
I would pump up the tones a bit if it was mine, just a tad dark IMHO.
I did a WS if you're interested.
Hi Luke,
This guy appears to be doing exactly what Steller Sea Lions do so well - laying around! I like the colour here and the raised head (as the only part of the subject with the clear background) really draws your eye.
I think the image as presented is just a tad under-exposed - I think a global exposure increase of about 1/3 of a stop would be all that's needed to make this one come to life (tho' it's possible it would look better if you leave the sky as is via a selective bump in exposure just to the dark foreground and subject).
Cheers...
Brad
I like this a lot Luke, great pose that he's giving you and an interesting setting.
