One of two siblings captured in early morning light in the big marsh in Ndutu. Ndutu is situated in the southern region of the Serengeti ecosystem but is part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area ( NCAA ) in northern Tanzania. This was captured las February while leading a private photographic safari.

Beautiful light on this one Morkel. The lush green grass really shows him off well. How did you like Ndutu? I've heard good and bad thins about it.

Thanks for the comment Jerry . . . . Ndutu will produce excellent sightings and photo opportunities. The downside is that it will get crowded during the peak season with too many vehicles at a sighting so if you stay away from the high season your experience will be a better one

Excellent contrast between the Cheetah and the grasses - love the bit of tail that is showing too

Hi Mario,

Interesting idea to shoot a 'scape almost wide open - the much more traditional approach would have been to stop down and strive for a maximal DoF. I always think in terms of controlling eyeflow and making sure the subject draws the eye, and both DoF and contrast in colour can do this. I am thinking that the brightness and colour contrast of the subject alone (which is fantastic in this shot) would have been enough to make the shot work...which means I'm wondering if the shallow DoF was needed (and, consequently, if it helps or hinders the shot). And I think it's an eye-of-the-beholder decision...

Cheers...

Brad

The light really makes the cheetah pop. Nice colours and layers.

Very serene view, Mario. Even the cat looks relaxed! The cheetah is very well placed and looking into the space in the frame. Given how gorgeous the scene is, a little more DOF might have been beneficial. Love the layered background as is though.

The cheetah really pops against those nice greens and blues.  Another fine shot, Mario.

Mario: This shot really appeals to me. I like your DOF choice and the light especially. I actually like this a bit better with most if not all of the sky cropped away. Fine capture of a wonderful moment.>=))>
