Image taken in Capitol Reef Nat'l Park on a very peaceful and colorful morning. For those who haven't wandered deep into the park, its a treat if you seek solitude. There are many areas in the park that appear "other worldly." Most of the time the roads allow good travel to many locations. But be aware of potential issues during wet periods!

12 commentsThis is one time where, for me, the saturation is somewhat over the top. Nearly across the board, yellows, oranges, reds, magentas, all seem pushed past the point of believeability is such a grande scene. Beautiful conditions and composition, just needs to be backed off quite a bit for my tastes.
The layering of elements here is interesting. I like layers, but if feels like the red cliffs in the middle should be lighter since they are further away than the orange/white fins. I do like these different layers, though, and you got some great clouds to go with them.
Thanks for the comments so far. I would also be curious on what folks opinion of the color balance, particularly the spires? Actually, this image wasn't heavily processed other than some local contrast work, some dodging/burning, and the typical web sharpening. That processing certainly enhanced the saturation, but no additional saturation was added. This is one of the those, "what you see is what you get" type of images. I really like filtered light situations, but it often leads to interesting colorations.
Keep the comments coming!
Having been to this spot a few times, I am not finding the image too heavily saturated for my tastes. That is prettyy close to what it looks like. You have a real nice sky in the background and it turned out well.
Love this location, too, Ken. My photo that proceeds yours in the Landscape gallery was taken from our camp on that ridge in the FG of this shot. We saw two other vehicles go by below us in 24 hours. I was surprised by the amount of grass in this area of the desert.
I think the saturation is just fine personally although I like Tony's idea of lightening the BG ridge to provide some separation from the monoliths. You could not ask for a better sky. Color me a bit jealous.
Really enjoying the view you've shared. I've got to get back there soon.
Beautiful scene, really like the painterly feel. Ron
I've never went there but after seeing this image I don't have to go because you are showing to me something probably nicer that I could see. All of this to say that's a beautiful scene with plenty of details, nice colors and compostion. My suggestion would be: leave it at is.
That wall of rocks towering above the tiny trees is splendid. Looks like the entrance of a fantasy stronghold to me! Color looks good to me. Photography is, after all, a delicate balance between what we see and what we experience. I do like Tony's suggestion though.
Spectacular sky Ken. The warmth of the scene is inviting and I think appropriate fot the time of day.
Hi ken,
Congrats on the weekly pic, and the light on this fine evening ids simply magical. There is a wonderful softness to this image that compliments this rugged scene wonderfully. I think the soft light really brings out how this rugged place can have a softer side.
Sweet photography
Ken: Wonderful capture of the moment. A color junkie's delight. Congrats on the WP. >=))>
