Humpback Whale

Had a great day whale watching off of Moss Landing California today. This juvenile Humpback gave us quite a show, jumping dozens of times.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 80-400 AF-S VR @ 80 mm, f/7.1, 1/2000, ISO 400.

This is about 50% of the original image. I have some other shots of this whale that fill the frame but I liked the composition and background on this one a bit better.

Truly stunning! I used that lens to shoot whales in the San Juan Islands - and while I never got to see a full breach like this, I got a lot of cool shots and the lens was incredible.

This is as good as these shots can get, I presume, nicely timed and great exposure in the light conditions for sure!
