I'm not at all sure that the main subject of this image is the main subject, hence the title.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL, hand held, f/6.3, 1/3200, iso 1250, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, no compensation. I took just a bit off the right and a fair amount off the bottom to get the composition where I wanted it. Taken at 7:42 am on March 22nd at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, Port Aransas, Texas.
I'd really appreciate your comments, especially since I don't get over to this forum often.
Thanks for looking.

You really need to look at this large to appreciate the "glow".
Hey Dennis,
Man !
You got some wonderful detail and lighting on the foreground Gator but that 'Big One' sure steals the show !
I like this composition a lot Dennis, interesting lines and the variation in lighting is nice too.
Dennis, I am late to the show, but I find this to be super. Gators, due to low horizontal shape are tough to make into good composition, but by using the two as artfully as you did here, you have done it quite well!
My only suggestion, and it is not a nit, is to experiment a little with selectively enhancing color in just the water to add more overall sparkle. I already love the difference in lighting between the foreground, in-focus subject and the darker background looming giant. Good work!
