A couple of years back I scratched up some ground near the cabin I had along Bear Creek and threw a mixed bag of wildflower seeds on the ground. One evening when I showed up to stay at the cabin I was treated to this field of flowers in the last light of the day. I shot it at f/5.6 for a somewhat narrow dof so just part of the flowers would be in focus and enjoyed the look when I saw it on my monitor. Although the background was dark I also added a little more vignetting and blurred the bottom just a bit more. Thanks for looking and any thoughts. Thanks too for all of your comments on my last post.
Larger version works much better.

22 commentsFlowers are always beautiful especially when someone takes the time to think and to find a way to put them at their best and it's the case. I love this picture, it's beautiful by the composition, the colors, the light and the subject. Nice work and the idea of throwing some seeds over there was, for sure, a good idea. By the way, the larger version is a must.
Beautiful, Nick. I really like your processing. It works really well. I agree with Jean, the large version is a must see. Excellent!
Great work for me, Nick, the colors and details are wonderful!

Really sweet, Nick. Love the vignette and the selective focus is perfect for this image. Beautiful.
The composition and processing are very appealing.
Hi Nick,
The first thought that came into my mind when I saw this beautiful image was Love. This image has the wonderful feeling of being cared for by a loving person. It is really unique, and I really enjoy the capture. Actually, it reminds me of my mom more than anything else.
Also, I love how you decided to blur the foreground and backgroun wit your chosen DOF. It is very effective in communicating your experience in this capture.
A gorgeous image, Nick, and I agree that the large version is a must! The low angle light is simply perfect!
I like the preciseness and detail of the front row of flowers. I'm indifferent about the black background. I usually avoid harsh lighting like this for grasses but you made it work. It doesn't look that busy. The back lighting makes this picture for me.
It has been a real treat to see this photograph. What an awesome display of nature's majesty. A real testament to the creative vision that was responsible for both isolating this scene and presenting it in such a stylized manner.
Lovely light show - the colours sprinkled across the frame a bit like impasto marks in a painting. The touch of vignetting works very well.
Love this nick... a great comp with varied shapes, colors, and sizes with an oof background to give it a dream-like quality. No nits
Thanks much to all of you for taking time to comment on this. I'm glad you enjoyed it and appreciate your thoughts on it.
Nick.
Nick, yep the larger version is a must here on this one. Love the soft light casting down on this scene. These are not easy scenes to bring out the best in, and you've done it here.
This is really delightful Nick. Gorgeous light. I also like you use of DoF.
This is a fine look at this group of wildflowers. The black background and narrow dof work very well and you've got a fine collection of colors.
Paul, Eva and Mark, Thanks so much for your comments! I'm glad all three of you enjoyed it. Cheers, Nick
This is wonderful Nick, you reap what you sow as they say.
Gary.
I love this, Nick. Simple, natural, and beautiful. I think the vignetting works well. This really belongs on a wall.
Really delightful Nick.
Gary, Jared and Kah Kit, Thanks much guys! Appreciate your comments and thoughts. Cheers, Nick
