High Desert Drifters

This is from Grand Staircase-Escalante in April. The wind was howling and I was hanging on tight to my tripod. I made images in the slight lulls in the wind.  The look of the image reminds me of a scene from a Western gunslinger movie.

Nikon D810, 70-200mm

The details in the large version are great, a lot to explore. I can only imagine alll the details you must be able to see on your screen/a large print with those 36 mp.... The trees in the foreground add a nice sense of scale, without those I would not have guessed those cliffs in the distance to be that big, which makes the impact of those cliffs a lot bigger.

Yep, that's the essence of the West alright.  I think if you look hard enough in those deep shadows a wagon train is fixin' to break out into the sunshine.sad  Really nice Harley.  Love the line of junipers and the sweet dappling light on the ridgelines. Well worth waiting out the wind.

WOW  - this is truly beautiful. I can easily see this as a large print. The light and composition are flawless, inmy view.

A WOW picture for me. Beautiful B&W with a dynamic range that honours the d810, unbelivable lights in the clouds and in the mountain in the far BG. There is a lot to explore, so on your screen, it must be something to see to repeat what Roel was saying.

Harley, This is absolutely wonderful. Excellent comp and perfect b&w processing. I agree with you as the first thing I thought of was an older western movie. I love it! Beautiful work.devildevil

Beautiful, classic B&W image. Resembles a scene from a John Ford movie. One of his better ones shot at Monument Valley. I like the handling of the sky with the blue parts represented as almost pure black. Nice job.

This has that universal southwestern afternoon thunderstorm look to it. A truly excellent scene and well processed image all around on this one, Harley......laugh

I cannot see any thoughts for change at all. devil

Lovely image, in the tradition of glorious claasic-landscape-monochrome photography.

Ever a pleasure for me to see at image like this one, with its superb and clear composition, its "neutral tone" b/w and its adequate level of detail and sharpness. Not a problem, for me, the dark-grey low tones (not so dark shadows) .

All the best,
Sandro
