Galapagos Lizards

This one is from North Seymour Island on the Galapagos.  The small lizard is a Lava Lizard, fairly often you see them on top of their larger relatives, in this case a Land Iguana, but often it's a Marine Iguana.  I think they grab small insects that are stirred up by their larger, vegetarian relatives.

Nikon D7000, Sigma 150-500 at 450mm.  !/400 F10, iso 400, full frame, handheld

Nate: a wonderrful and unique image. Having the Lava Lizard in perfect focus on the back of the Land Iguana is visual treat. It's made more interesting by having the larger lizard fade out of focus bringing attention to the smaller animal. Great! Richard

Hey Nate,

Nice texture on that rock the little one is climbing on! enlightened

This is a cool and fun shot and my only very minor nit is that I wish the skin texture of the big guy below didn't soften slightly as it approached the bottom of the frame. But I know you were already down to f10...and stopping down even further would have been accompanied by other compromises...

Cheers...

Brad

Neat comp and setting, Nate. I think the face of the little guy is slightly in front of best focus zone, or else we are seeing a bit of quick subject head motion.  I like the rich warmth of the colors.

Thanks for your comments everyone. Lon these guys are continually bobbing their heads, so I imagine that is why the head is not as tack sharp as the body.
