Resting Western Sandpiper. Taken at the 2012 Copper River Shorebird Festival. My first attempt at copying Mia MacPherson's signature "lying in the mud" approach to shorebird photography, and I found it works.
Full frame. Slight adjustment to Levels. Selective sharpening of bird.
C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

5 commentsWell I haven't tried the "lying in the mud" approach yet, but I would need a shore for that?
Although with all the rain we've had lately in Texas, it's a distinct possibilty
Excellent FF shot Jim, sharp details and the techs look great!
I too am a fan of shooting from a low position, but I can't say that I've often used the "lying in the mud" method. This peep is a beauty, with fine colors and sharpness. The resting but watchful pose is a neat catch as well.
What a beautiful bird Jim. The colors and detail of the whites are wonderful. I also like the low angle of the shot. I like it as is, but wonder if you have room to add to the left side; possibly even moving the subject to the right as it is looking left. I'd be interested to see the difference in composition.
Gorgeous look here, Jim. I especially like the pristine white in this one, seems to enhance the very beautiful other colors on display in the feathers.......
Hi jim
