North Sierra foothills. D800e, Sigma 400 5.6, 1/125, f7.1, ISO 1250, tripod, remote release.  I like the s-curve of the tree and the birds tail tight against it, helping to stabilize the bird. C&C welcome.

A gorgeous perch and bg, Jim, and the bird is very well exposed with a nice pose.  They don't get much better than this.  My only nit is that I think I'm seeing just a thin bright line along the bird's back and tail-pretty easily removed.

Thanks for your kind comments Hans and Dennis.  Good eye to spot that bright line Dennis.  I guess this is from sharpening?  I have cloned these out in the past.  Do either of you know a better and quicker way to do it?

I like this a lot Jim. Great detail in the bird and perch. Very complimentary background too. Well done!

Hey Jim,
This is Too Cool with the position of the subject on that wonderful perch and what a great background. The details and colors are great and you handled the Blacks expertly.
Well Done . . .  devil

I was drawn to this image by the clean composition, nice curve of the branch and clear detail of the woodpecker. Excellent!
