I drove down to the Ohio border to find a blue grosbeak, but got skunked. I saw every species of blue-colored bird except for the grosbeak. A male bluebird showed up with a large June beetle, consumed it, and then gave a stretch to fix a twisted wing feather. Not an ideal comp, but thought I'd post it anyways K5 IIs 500mm f5.6 (1/1250sec at f8, ISO 640) Levels, crop for comp, and used Phil's method for removing a stick....................................Jim

7 commentsLove the unusual stretching pose Jim.. Almost looks like it could be a slip & 'oops' move as well
Great details, colors, framing, and complimentary sky blue BG!
A nice consolation for a miss on the Blue Grosbeak. Well done.
Good shot. The unusual position is a plus, IMO.
Sweet, Jim. I wouldn't complain about the composition-it looks fine to me. The larger version looks just a bit noisy-I'd be tempted to run some noise reduction.
Love the bluebird. Great image. Thanks for sharing
Love the pose with the open beak, stretched wing and foot up here Jim, I am seeing some noise in the larger version, not a big deal though. Sweet shot Jim!
The blue bird with the blue background works very well and the stretching adds some nice interest to the shot. It may not have been what you were looking for but it's a pretty good prize just the same, Jim!
