A Trumpeter Swan testing his newly feathered wings. It wasn't fully recovered from Moulting but most of the feathers were there and they were brand new and a beautiful bright white. It's partner was busy with house cleaning and not the least bit impressed with the display.

There's a lot more to look at in the large version.

3 commentsAn impressive wing spread on this very large bird. Compositionally, I wish the mate hadn't been there, but it is appropriate since they mate for life, more or less. Sweet and sharp feather detail!
A great study of the differential feather growth in the wings, Gary. The primaries are mostly in, the seocndaries getting there, and the tertiaries and tertials are a mess. Very cool. Great capture and nice work on the exposure.
Excellent detail in those beautiful whites Gary and a great pose you caught. I am seeing either some noise (which seems surprising at iso 100) or some texture in the water that you could run some noise reduction on.
