I've seen these birds at a distance, but today was the first time I've even taken a picture of one. They are really beautiful little birds. This is a large crop, about 60% of original. The b/g may be a little too busy, but overall I like this image.

Thanks in advance for comments and critiques.

5 commentsI like the comp with the bird looking back through the frame Greg.
Excellent color, light, DOF, and sharp details. The Indigo stands out nicely from your BG as well
I like the image too, Greg.
It looks like the feathers are not 100% "ready" yet, but I don't know this species, so it might be as is.
Nice job. Good pose and comp. BG is okay but I might tone down the brownish spot just to the right of the tail as it seems to draw my attention away from the blue of the bird.
Greg,
This looks great considering the crop, OK the BG is not the best, but the subject itself is nicely rendered.
Excellent detail, Greg, and a great pose. I do wish the green bg weren't quite so vibrant. If you wanted to try it, you could isolate the bird and that nice perch on a separate layer and try desaturating the bg a bit to see how it looks.
