From up in the Colorado National Monument, just outside of Grand Junction, these are the Book Cliffs on the other side of the Grand Valley. Turned out to be one of those wonderful evenings when the light went unexpectantly ballistic.

Excellent, Dave. The light on the cliffs is great and their warmth really sets off the darkness and hues in the sky.

Great contrast in this one! The blue sky with its soft details, and the very contrasty yellow/orange rocks with their sharp details. Nice job!

While I like the light you had, I think you have a bit too much sky. I might take a bit off the top and try to get a bit of detail out of the FG trees...

Beautiful warm and yet subtle light. Sweet sky, too. No nits from me.

I think that I agree with you Dan about cropping some sky away... at the very least, that uppermost band of dark blue isn't large enough to look right. I do kind of like the way the remaining white cloud band at the top bookends the dark base to the image. I will say that though that I have wrung as much detail out of the FG trees as I feel comfortable with, just a personal preference. They're not as dark in the larger image poste.

Really sweet light. Nice layers and depth. I agree with cropping just a bit off the top, but not to much.

Really sweet, Dave. I love this kimd of light and I think, because of the distances involved, a lot of sky is necessary. Unless of course you have a really long lens. The large view definatley has enough detail for me. Nice work.

This is a fine image as is Dave. I wouldn't crop from the top at all. As you say the white clouds at the top are an important part of the composition and you come up with something else entirely if you omit it.Something simpler and less interesting.
