Cedar Waxwing

Cedar Waxwing shot from this spring. I relied primarily on the 'color replacement tool in Adobe PS, removing the green grass FG blur across the birds body, and rock perch. After using the CR tool, I selectively reduced brightness in those areas to get a closer match..

Hey Howard,
Nice work in post-processing for some fine results. I really like the action in this image with the Waxwing in the middle of a 'Big Gulp' and the water rings from where he got the drink.
Great timing . . .  devil

Very nice large image.  Peaceful scene.  Looks like Texas Hill Country to me...

Hi Howard,

I've never used this technique before, but I'll be experimenting with it soon. Do you make a selection to work on or do you use a brush tool?

As I remember, you used this technique on someone elses image in a response once and I ment to ask you for more detailed information then, but got sidetracked somehow. Part of the maturing (ageing) process I suppose.

Hi Neil, To answer your ? "Do you make a selection to work on or do you use a brush tool?"

Yes, I use the brush tool (CR is one of three brushes). Settings I used for replacement were color 'Mode', contiguous 'Limits', and 30% 'Tolerance'.

After using the CR tool the work areas were slightly lighter, so I used Viveza 2 (a Nik pluggin) & manually selected control points to finish it off (reduce brightness).

Looks like your technique worked very well, Howard.  A very sweet shot.  I'll have to remember that as I don't think I've ever tried using that tool.  Thanks for posting the original-it added a lot to your discussion.

Howard: late to the discussion, but your photo deserves a definite Wow! The bird is beautifully placed, has an interesting pose and jumps off the screen. Congrats! Richard
