Rose Mallow
Hi all.
Sorry to have been so absent this summer. I have actually not had a lot of time to shoot and process. I can't complain though. I have a good job that is going well, and have been on a nice, long family vacation this year as well as a nice getaway with my wife. So that is where my time has been going.
I finally got the chance to shoot a nice bloom on our Rose Mallow plant the other day. The morning was overcast, so the light was perfect, and there was no breeze. Pretty rare occurance.
Any and all thoughts appreciated.

8 commentsClassic comp and a good exposure with well handled whites. I like the DOF you got at f/22 and the rose tint in the petals.
Beautifully composed, with some lovely pinks and whites in the petals, Nathan, and great lines. Not sure whether I would like the centre elements more distinct or whether the glow gives a stronger effect. Fine image either way !
Nathan - Very unique composition. Don't recall seeing this composition anytime earlier. Lovely colors to go along. The Stigma looks a little unsharp...and personally I have had problems focussing properly on those when they were white/cream as well. May be something else at play too.
Beautiful, Nathan. I love the wavy lines and curves, and the pink color in this flower is beautifully soft.
There's a great overall warmth here from the subtle pinks in the petals that your comp. really shows off, Nathan. This is a lovely, inviting image. As a very minor nit, I'm wondering if you could get a touch more contrast in the stamen along the left.
Nathan: Frame filling fantastic. I do like the comp and the subtle coloration of the petals especially. I shoot this same variety quite a bit in our garden and for my personal taste the little fuzzies around the "bugle" ends have to be really sharp or off to the trash it goes. I suspect that despite the f22 the POF is far enough behind the tips that they are not quite sharp. Still works pretty well for me and glad to hear about your family escapades. >=))>
Hi Nathan,
The petals are awesome. The stigma is slightly sharper, the sacrafice in sharpness is allowable for the detail in the petals.................Jim
A splendid work Nathan, simple, delicate and beautiful. Bravo, well deserved.
