This image is a bit more interesting than my previous post.  I did not remove any elements from the BG and wish I shot this at f16.  I'll probably try a 1.4x teleconverter plus extension for my next try at dragonflies with the 600mm f5.6. K5 IIs 600mm f5.6 + 32mm extension (1/500sec at f11, ISO 800) Levels, Topaz Detail, slight crop for comp................................Jim

Hey Jim,
Sweet . . .
The overall composition is really nice in this one with outstanding detail in the subject. The background and environmental elements are very complimentary and allow the subject to stand-out perfectly while adding additional interest. You lens and extension set-up is serving you well and has peaked my interest to try a few variations to this approach.
Well done . . .  devil

Great look at this dragonfly, Jim!  The position of the dragonfly gives a great look at the wings. The bg is beautiful showing just enough detail to show what the environment was like but not enough to be distracting.

Beautiful, Jim. I like the entire setting. I think your dof selection was excellent for both the subject and the bg. POF right on the money. devil

Jim, shooting "macro" with a long lens comes with it's own challenges (as I'm finding out in moving from 100 to 180mm).  The biggest change is the restricted dof.  In this case it helps out considerably and gives a fine look at this HP while softening the background well.  I especially like how you've got the red stigma showing so well.
