Orange and Blue were my school colors in high school as well as college, so I liked the deep blue iridescence on the wings of this great black wasp, Sphex pensylvanicus (no oxymoron comments, please) when it landed on these butterfly weed flowers.

6 commentsTerrific and unusual combination of orange and deep blue colors, Wayne. I like the head on perspective and excellent detail in the wasp. A very minor suggestion would be to burn the green leaf running behind the wasp as it is a bit light and distracting, IMO. Thanks for sharing.
What a stand out image! Love the colours and the detail in the wasp.Graham
Excellent details and exposure of the blacks/dark blue wing color, hard to get right..
And the orange of the b-fly weed works oh so nicely Wayne.
Very well done
The details (especially in the darker parts of the wasp) are excellent, Wayne. You've done a fine job catching the iridescence in a gently colorful setting.
Hey Wayne,
Another Beauty with amazing details and colors.
Such a steady hand for this shot while having a flash back to your High School days, can you still fit into that old Jersey ?
Well done my Friend . . .
The colors and detail are great, Wayne. I understand these are aggressive and the sting can be quite painful
