This post's dedicated to my avain friend Dennis Plank. He recently set me straight on the difference between 'first light' and 'daybreak'.. With 'daybreak' being that first hour or so after sun-up, AKA known as the 'golden hour' for shooting.
We all need to be called out from time to time
This was around 9am & in shadow, with the morning sunlight breaking across the scene.. F/9, 1/640th, ISO 500, 5DM2, 300mm f/2.8 + 2x ext.
Post Script: There's a bee flyin' down there in the LLC somewhere.. if you can find it![]()

I recognize that rock on the left...and the flowers. This spot in your pond has really been providing some fine images, Howard. Yep, I see the bee, but wouldn't have recognized it even in the larger version without you telling me.
I found the bee at around 8:00 in the lower left. Golden hours are sometimes hard to come by, for a number of reasons. I like morning light as well as the next, but it ain't religous. Learning how to shoot and process at other times of the day is quite often a practical necessity.
That said, wonderful light, Howard! I like the view of the Cardinal, who is obviously enjoying himself.
Beautiful setting with subtle lighting. I like the pose captured with the open beak and reflection. Very nice feel.
