American Goldfinch

Another juvenile, this time in an Anise Hyssop.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600mm contemporary at 600mm, f/7.1, 1/1000, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering, no compensation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Selected the bird and tweaked it a bit with Topaz detail, levels and curves.  Cropped to get the composition I wanted, then had to add a touch of canvas on the right.  Removed some of the Anise Hyssop that I didn't like.  Final size was 16.8 MP.  Taken this morning at 10:21 under hazy skies.

I appreciate the comments on the last Bluebird post and look forward to your observations on this image.

Thanks,

<script src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/5577e3b5/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js" type="text/javascript"></script> Dennis, I like the shot and I am one of those that likes foreground and background as long as it doesn't overally detract from the subject.  Your image of an immature, must mean your subject is a newly fledged Goldfinch. Think you are spot on with the eye and plumage. Personally, I would have eliminated the two Anise Hyssop on the right so that the Hyssop didn't detract from the goldfinch, and not added canvas, just my opinion.

Nicely done Dennis.  The inclusion of the flowers is a real plus.  Very sharp image.  That lens at 600mm is looking quite impressive (I assume you meant this is the 150-600).

Hi Dennis,

The goldfinch is sharp and well presented in the composition. The slight head-turn is nice. The blue gray BG helps push the bird away from the BG. The OOF hyssop is a minor nit for me, but not a deal breaker..............................Jim

This is far more impressive on the big screen.  I like the pose and placement though the OOF Anise Hyssop is a minor distraction but the remainder of the image is wonderful.

Techs are perfect Dennis, no nits there.. Love the hyssop as a perch, and they're an attractive element of your comp..

Only neg for me is the hyssop down left in front of the bird, it's fairly prominent.

Well donedevil

I like the perch, pose and background.  Wish the OOF flowers were not bisecting the rump.

Really sharp feather detail. I like the pastel feel to this Dennis, lots of soft colors work well for you here. It's too bad the tail is obscured a bit, but you take what you get. I think you did a great job on with the composition, very pretty bird. Well done!

Lovely setting and perch Dennis.  The bird has an almost wistful gaze
