Juvenile Orange-crowned Warbler, Valdez, Alaska. Late evening light (10 PM). He was still looking for food from his parents, but I think he'd been left on his own.
50% crop. Selective brightening and sharpening to bird. Cloned out a really ugly stick.
(I've relocated from Alaska to Idaho. Still unpacking. Posts and comments will erratic for a while.)
C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

4 commentsNice little fellow by the looks of it, and quiet an achievement at 10pm.. Curious: does it have a short (or missing) tail, or is it just not visible at this angle ? I never have seen the species, hence the question.. Good luck with unpacking

Hans, I think the tail isn't fully grown out yet. It's the gray stub you can see beyond the end of the primaries. Wood warblers like this have tails that extend out beyond the wings.
Tack sharp & especially nice colors..the subtle orange crown is clear to see..
Have fun unpacking this weekend Jim, better you than me
Moved to the sunbelt? Nice shot of this warbler, Jim. I like hte hint of hte orange crown showing through.
