With summer winding down, most of the birds have taken off for their overwintering grounds. There have been a few butterflies feeding on the available flowers. My flash fired and with the setting sun, there was enoiugh light to get the irridescence to glow on the underside of this red spotted purple. Beauty, Jim. The BF in the first version is nice and sharp with an excellent comp, superb colors in the BF and butterfly bush, and an excellent bg. I really like the striking colors and pattern on the wings. Excellent result with that long set-up.
Both great views of this species Jim. I prefer the closed wing view with its lively patternes/colors of course
Excellent use of flash, nice details
A fascinating look (especially colorwise) at this RSP, Jim. They always seem so dark. This shows off the details in the wing very well. The buddleia looks good as well. I like the underside view, best, but both are very good. I've been seeing RSPs around here regularly over the last week. I'm guessing that this is the fall hatch that will winter over. So far, they're being very sensitive to disturbance...
Good catch and DOF on both, considering the 600 + 1.4TC and f/8. It did a beautiful job on the background as well! The lighting with the fill flash is spot on.
