I posted another version of the Band-winged Dragonlet - (Erythrodiplax umbrata) species back in July. One of the smaller dragonflies out there, it's about the same size as a large damselfly. I believe this is the female..
F/20, 1/200th, ISO 500, 5DM2, 300mm f/2.8 + 2x ext. & fill flash.

4 commentsHi Howard,
I wish the the BG was a little bit lighter for this one to get those nice wing veins to be more visible. With the dark BG, maybe a more square crop to make the dragonfly bigger and be more dominant over the BG. The head and body colors are nice and the fill flash seems to have helped pull them away from the shadows. A pretty cool look at this small species........................Jim
Excellent DF image, Howard. The wings show very well in the larger view. I especially like the facial details, even though partially obstructed. Looks like a very happy DF!
Howard, you always seem to get the best out of these dragonfly images. Especially the wing structures that are simply amazing to see at this magnification. The wings always give me the feeling that I'm seeing some kind of special deep space antenna of sorts.
Another excellent D-fly scene.........
The details and the light are outstanding, Howard. This has a great glow to it.
