A White Bearded Wildebeest jumps into the Mara River following the rest of the herd to the other side. Image captured in Maasai Mara National Reserve during the recently concluded photo tour I led to this unique piece of african wilderness.

9 commentsClassic crossing jump! I am heading to the Mara Triangle on Saturday, can't wait...
Nice stop action shot, Mario. I like the placement of the airborne Beast and the fact that the landing it has spotted is in frame as well.
Always an exciting time with a lot of action whenever there is a crossing. I hope to witness it again someday. Nicely captured. TFS.
Great action capture. I love the fact that the wildebeest is completely frozen. Well done.
Mario,
Interesting action, I would have liked more room on the left and a little more light on the jumpers head.
Only been to the Mara crossing on one occasion, and although we had great sightings, I found the experience overly commercial and extremely crowded
Thanks for the comments everyone !
@Morkel Mara is looking great at the moment with big herds crossing in both directions. Congrats on your award
@Ken You are absolutely right ...... it does get crowded with everyone fighting for position but when you witness one of the great crossings you forget about the crowds and enjoy the moment.
<div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"> </div>Mario:excellent. Seeing the single animal leaping into the water tells a great story. The dust and apparent apprenhension of the others add to the story. Richard
Perfectly place leap. Crowds or no crowds, I envy this experience. Coming back to this for further review, I wanted to add this might be a frequently observed scenario, but you have done a classic job of capturing the frenzy by well-placed inclusion of the bunched up animals preparing to follow. The dust in the air implies others have crossed in front, and you allowed enough space for good sense of place.
I've watched this behavior on the National Geographic channel, you've done a fine job of capturing the 'urgency' of the moment here Mario.. the wildebeest is at the apex of its leap, great timing on this one.
Very nice!
