I found one large monarch butterfly larva while out this evening with the macro setup. Although days away from pupation, the caterpillar may not have enough time to complete its life-cycle. The comp is a little tight on the left, but I like the pose and frame filling shot reveals the tiny secondary setae on the body. Hey Jin,
This one is excellent in all respects,
Well done . . .
This truly is an excellent closeup/macro here, Jim. I do not find it too tight at all on the left. At least not for this type of in-tight photo anyway. Nice work all around.....
It is a great pose, Jim, and I would not worry about the room on the L. Maybe to have had the more distant leaf sharp too would have been good ( as the leaves are a nice feature of the image I feel ) but not a problem in any way.
Hope it makes it. Those around here should be coming out in a few more days. Good full body shot. It would be a simple task to add some canvas on the left.
Hi Jim
Well composed showing the excellent detail and color of the monarch larva . hope it survives..

Good look at this cat. Jim. I was very surprised two weeks ago to see a Monarch laying eggs, figured it was pretty late in the season, but, hey, I'm not a Monarch... The soft lighting works very well here and your flash contribution is perfect. I think the comp. works just fine...those antennae are small enought that their proximity to the frame isn't a problem for me.
The left 'tightness' doesn't bother, they're just thin 'appendages' anyway man
Excellent details revealing the small secondary setae in fine detail.. Great use of flash, nice one Jim
