This was taken this past week-end in Prince Albert National Park in northern Saskatchewan. For this image if used a Nikon D810 camera with a 300 2.8 lens + 1.4 tc, f5.6, 1/3200 ISO 640. I was lying on my tummy and waited until the bird came close.
Thanks for looking and critiques or comments appreciated.

8 commentsExcellent pose and eye contact, May. Your low angle really paid off. You might run a bit more sharpening on the fface as it's just the tiniest bit less sharp than the breast.
Very surprising that Horned Larks are still that far north this late. These species with adjoining blacks and whites are very tought to expose. You did a good job finding a middle ground that cost you a little of the detail in the darks and whites, but kept sufficient detail over all. The low angle really makes the shot.
Lovely image May - love the walking pose and very cool background!
Hi May,
Very nice image with the bird frozen while stepping. The yellow patch on the throat is very bright, but appears to have some detail present. Overall comp is good with a nice clean BG....................................Jim
The POV is excellent May, well worth the effort ! Light seems a little harsh, but other than that a very fine image

Low angle is very good here. I agree on a touch more sparening to the head/
Nice low angle and clean BG May.
Excellent detail May, I really like the low angle. Ray
