Not exactly a Kurt Bowman style take-off, but I really liked the leg positions and lifted wings in this one. A rather ragged specimen as well, but I sometimes like well worn individuals as they have more character.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held, f/7.1, 1/5000, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering, manual exposure. Processed in LR5 & CS6. The original frame had the bird pretty far to the right and a bit high in the frame, so I added some canvas on the right and a sliver on the top and cropped from the left and bottom. Final size is 12.6MP. Slight sharpening to the bird. Taken at 8:57 am at South Beach State Park in Oregon on June 11th (still going through old files).
I appreciate your comments on the Mockingbird and look forward to your input on this one.
Thanks,

6 commentsTerrific take off pose, it has its motor runnin'.. I like everything about this one Dennis, not much room for improvement here.
Unless you could've got a bit closer, but that goes without saying. Excellent post processing work on the canvas additions..
Well done!!
Very nice Dennis. I too like the leg and wing positions on this one. Also like the simplicity of the background and foreground with no distractions taking away from the subject. Looks like maybe a bit of repeated patterns in the right background, which I wouldn't notice if you hadn't mentioned you added canvas over there. Maybe it was really like that. Anyway, doesn't really take away from this nice image.
I like this takeoff capture Dennis. The extended wings show the worn feathers well and you nailed the exposure beautifully- to say nothing of the masterful job of expanding the canvas-well done.
Excellent capture of the way Gulls usually take off ! Like the whole compostion, with plenty of room for the bird to run into

Very cool Dennis. I like the wing position and the mid step pose that shows the action happening. Nice job on the canvas addition too. The backgound is pleasing and very appropriate for this gull, i like the wave rolling in too. The only suggestion I would have... and this comes down to clone or not to clone. Maybe removing the white spots in the foreground sand. (minor nit) Nice work!
Fine as is.
