Yellow Fringe on Blue

Rather than work on the huge dump of images from my recent trip to Scandinavia, I've vowed to start on the scattered backlog of photos from assorted trips over the last year that I've barely glanced at because I can't stop making more work for myself. Here's one taken on October 17, 2014 from my new go-to lake in the Sierra just 2 hours from my house and a 45 minute walk from the TH. It's overrun in the summer but there's never anyone there in fall or spring (when snow travel is needed.)

The willows (?) on the lake edge were just starting to color up and caught the last rays of sun. I always like yellow with blue and the quite large, shaded cliff behind the lake made for a nice BG.

Lovely reflection and light Dave! I find the upper left a little bit distracting so perhaps a panoramic crop would be worth trying.

Dave, this is very peaceful and serene to look at. I totally agree on the yellow and blue, always great contrasting colors together.

I do find my eyes wandering just a bit trying to find a final composition. Although I agree on a slight crop, mine is to tighten the left side just a bit. Maybe bring the edge up to the beginning of the overhead rock area. That still leaves the small BG bush on the left in the scene, but just cuts down on me wandering a bit on the view........that works for me anyway...laugh

Dave,
I love the composition and content of this image. It's a very peaceful scene. It looks to me like there's a cyan cast particularly in the rocks. Also, the whites in the upper left and the yellow in the bushes are a bit hot, so I might tone those down a bit. This may help with the distraction that Richard mentions.

I like this image a lot, Dave.  The color combo works real well.  I also like a more abstract image with a crop from the left, cutting off the bushes on the left slightly and leaving only bushes, rock and reflection.

Dave, I'm enjoying the view here, with the touch of light on the tips of the willows and the excellent textural contrast between the willows and the rocks behind.  The strongly rippled reflections work very well in continuing the texture of the willow to the bottom of the frame.  I'm fine with the comp., but think that a bit of burning on the brightest area of the rock (upper left) would reduce a subtle distraction.

Beautiful serene scene and great reflection. I find myself distracted by the top left outcrop. I would be inclined to crop down below it, which to my eye, further emphasizes the beautiful bushes and reflection.

Nice mix of textures and colors - I can see why you were drawn to it.  My fav. part is actually the rippled reflection, would love more of it!  So many hidden gems in the Sierras.

Hi Dave,

This is a sweet little peaceful scene you have captured. I enjoy the light on the bushes, and the reflections very much in this image. I too think the bright left side is a bit distracting, so toning that down would help, or a crop may be cool too. Still, a very enjoyable and peaceful scene.

Absolutely gorgeous.  I love your chosen shutter speed as it freezes the ripples on the water, and the background rocks are real beauties.
