This view atop Mount Percival in NH was taken at th beginning of this week, and illustrates how odd this fall was in NH.  Still many trees haven't changed in the lakes region in the center of the state, as fall came about 10 days late.  I have avoided taking any shots from this summit view for many years, as I just couldn't find any compostions I was happy with.  If you ask anyone who has  hiked this very easy and accessible mountain, I'm sure they will tell you that the views are great with wide open ledges and vistas.  But still, sometimes more than open views are needed to make a compelling image.  There is a lot going on in the FG which may be too much for some, and the lighting wasn't ideal to separate the features quite as I wanted.  I returned 3 days later to find the topmost foliage stripped of color and leaves in some cases, with a good amount of the lower elevations still green.  So I felt like I was in autumn and summer all at once.  Some nice clearing snow squals in the distance toward sunset.

Single exposure, f16, ISO 400

Pretty darn nice to my eye, Harry.  Love the expansive view  with lots to carry the eye along the journey.  I envy you New Englanders this time of year with the endless supply of color and plenty of elevation from which enjoy it.  Nice work as always.

I am really enjoying the wide open feel of this photograph, Harry. So many interesting elements and the detail in the near foreground lays the foundation for what I can expect in the mid ground and the distance.

Beautiful view!! I could sit there for a long time! I would be inclined to pull way back on the cyan. I find that pops the other colors and  opens up the mids a bit.

Wow, I see at least a million potential camping spots at that lake, me wanna go there! Very nice and relaxing (if that makes any sense?) glow on the hills in the distance. And yes, the foreground is a bit chaotic, but so is nature, and this comp works perfect for me. Those colorful trees are a treat to look at.

Thanks Harley - Definately allows more of the colors to show through.  I will adjust the mast.  Thanks!

Hi   Harry crying We had the same problem  in quebec.    some trees were still green  while others were ablaze with color.    love the perspective ,  the scale. and  colors of this impressive  grand scene..

Beautiful fall color. This works really well. Great foreground, mid-ground and background. The colors and sweet light in the background are very nice. Great composition also.

HI Harry,

I think the composition is good, and I I like the more complex nature of the scene. The colors and light look darn good for myself, and the glow on the background hills really completes the scene nicely. I am sure this was a joy to view on this fine day!!

It really is a beautiful view!!!!

Quite a view, Harry, and very evocative of my memory of a NE autumn. Great comp and work. I would not have noticed a cyan cast and wonder how the re-work looked. Could you post it somewhere?

Here's a version with a little less cyan cast, applied globally to the image.
