Soft Light on the Peaks

As I was headed toward a higher spot, I stopped at this overlook just as the Sun got high enough to light up the sky, but not the earth.  The soft light bouncing off the clouds lit the Great Range section of the Eastern High Peaks Wilderness in the Adirondack Forest Preserve. (Chapel Pond -- the subject of my last post -- is at the bottom of this view.)

I like your composition here, Wayne.  It keeps a good size piece of each key element in the scene (tree covered hillsize, lake, rock cliff, background mountains and dynamic sky) yet is still balanced in the frame.  The exposure is excellent also with great control of the highlights in the clouds so that their shades and textures are maintained, very good lighting on the mountains and excellent rich tones in the foreground.  A very pleasant scene and an excellent job of capturing it!

You are constructing some very nice images Mr Jones.  This one does not have the explosion of colors of your previous posts, but does have the long and very detailed look of the area you portray so well.  Nice work.

The rocks on the rigth are a wee bit too dominant for me, I would consider a slight crop from that side. Other than that this is a really sweet pic, looks like a nice place for sure!

Hi Wayne,

The depth of this image is what I really enjoy from this scene. The flow of the scene works well for myself, and the light is darn nice.A sweet little viw of this area, and i too need to spend some time out this way in the coming years.

Very nice exposure, Wayne, that says fall in the Adirondacks. It's too late now but my only suggestion would be to move a foot or so to the left so that the pine's trunk is not in line with the edge of the rock.
