Sneffels Window

Mount Sneffels makes its appearance through a window in the morning clouds.  There were too many low clouds for a colorful sunrise, but this scene ended up being special and making one of my favorite images from the trip to the San Juans of Colorado in early October.

Wow, Doug. Killer image. You were blessed with amazing light and atmospheric conditions, and certainly did well with them. Congrats. devil

The forest looks very nice, and this would in fact have worked as a pano for me as well, but the mountain framed by the clouds is just splendid! You got the perfect clouds for this shot, nice job.

Hi Doug,

This image is the essence of Autumn, and the composition flows wonderfully in this capture. Pretty much, you nailed this iamge with wonderful atmosphere, light and color.

Excellent!!!

Thanks for all the comments.  I was wondering if maybe the saturation in luminosity mode of the yellow/orange is too high for the aspens.

Wow, I can see why this is one of your favorites!  I think that a colorful sunrize may have detracted from some of the wonderful autumn effect of this image.  Mountain, clouds and foreground trees look great.  The only tiny change I might suggest would be toning down some of the brightness (or maybe saturation) of some of the yellow leaves in that triangle extending form the right side into the center of the scene.  They look good as presented, but I think a little less "oomph" might bring out the details there to match the rest of the picture.

UPDATE:  Ha!  When I hit the comment button, I saw your comment above mine.  Guess we think alike.  Your idea is worth a try, but I would not want to change it too much.

Feels like a once in a great while combination of elements, light and color. I especially like the little bit of creek that I can see which provides a subtle counterpoint to the mountain above.

How cool to get the mountain top poking through the clouds set off by those glorious yellow Aspens in the foreground.  The darker part of the sky is distinctly purple, which has me wondering how toning that down would look.

Super cool, I love the way Mount Sneffels is poking up through the clouds with all of the aspens down below.

This has emotional appeal to me as I spent 10 years in Colorado in the 60's and 70's.  I spent a fair amount of time in the mountains; Aspen trees in September and October are just so impressive. This is a terrific composition.
