Autumn Bison

A photo from my final visit to Yellowstone this year (barring any last-minute plans).  I followed up my fall tour with a few days on my own in the park.  One afternoon as I was driving home I noticed a small herd of bison high up on the hills above the Lamar Valley.  The cottonwoods in the foreground were in peak color, so I waited for the herd to move into position, and then for the sun to come back out so I could frame the animals in a nice bit of autumn color.  Not perfect thanks to a few stragglers here and there, but certainly one of the more colorful wildlife scenes I've photographed in the park over the years.

It's about color more than about bison...and that is fine!  The yellow/blue combo is strong and pleasing.

Way cool, Max! Love the colours and bisonscape. The opposites on the colour wheel (blue and gold) make this even more dramatic. I love shooting through natural vignettes and this is a wicked variation of that. Makes me miss Yellowstone.

Max, are these landscape shoots starting to wear off on you? enlightened Nice shot, I do wish that bison over the hill to the left of the main herd was not there, and wish that the herd itself was seperated a bit more, but we can't have it all. The blue/gold color contrast always works well.
