"Phil" Cooper's

"Phil" is the dominant Cooper's Hawk in the neighborhood. He has maintained his role for five years and might be responsible for 16 offspring.

Camera - Canon 7D, with 400mm at f/10,1/400, and ISO 320 in Oshkosh, WI. I cropped the image and flipped sides for portrait. My goal was to create a balanced subject with good positioning.

Nice, Larry.  Good feather detail and head turn, though a bit more light on the face might have been nice.  If I have a cooperative raptor in a tree, I concentrate on the face and wait for a head turn I like, the take several shots and wait for what will hopefully be an even better pose.  If you could have stepped a bit to the right when you took this, the branches behind the hawk would have been out of the way and youd just have to deal with the small twigs to the left, which would give you a cleaner bg.
