Teton Storm Light

Late on a day that started out cloudy with occasional rain, some of the clouds started to part and a few shafts of sunlight broke through.  In this case a few Aspens were nicely illuminated out on Willow Flats and we got to watch the sun set as my wife and I waited for a dinner reservation at the Jackson Lake Lodge.  (5D3, 70-200 f2.8 @ 200mm, tripod, cropped to 80% of FF)

Ahhhh!  Sweet light and those aspen isolate with the backlighting, pretty perfect. A grand view with near and far elements of interest - surprising with a long zoom comp.  And a nice dinner to boot, best of all worlds!

Great light and mood here, Mark.  I love the pop of golden trees with a fairly dark background and the stormy gray skies.  On my monitor (which is not great so...) the mountains have a bit of an atmospheric blue hue.  It's not necessarily bad (if it is an issue on a better monitor), but it does distract me a bit.

I like everything about this, Mark.  The light and the golden aspen are great.  Even better though is the way this conveys the scale of the peaks as they tower above the valley.

Mark, as if the image wasn't enough to stimulate envy, taking it from the Jackson Lake Lodge while waiting for dinner just puts me over the top!frown  Love this image.  The compression really adds a lot.  Wonderful light and composition.  My wife and I are hoping to make it out there next year.

Wonderful atmosphere and splendid light Mark. The sense of scale provided by the aspens is amazing.

What a wonderful scene, Mark. I like the comp and very much enjoy how those aspens are lit up. Some very cool conditions so captured here.

Beautiful.  What a grand landscape, with great depth and an excellent color pop against a subdued scene. However, your narrative is making me hungry. :)

Hi Mark,

I am really digging this scene, and this brings back memories of the stunning Teton area. The atmosphere is wonderful with the rays shinning down on the aspen trees. The willow bushes are beautiful in their reds, and scale of the mountains provide some drama.

Beautiful work!!!!

I'm a huge fan of compressed landscapes through the use of telephotos and this is a great example. The colorful trees make it that miuch more special. Nice work, Mark!

Mark:

Nice view up Paintbrush Canyon!  The hazy blue is I would say accurate for this atmospherics, my only suggestion is the foreground and trees could come up in value.  Manager of the Lodge is a guy I used to guide with on Mt Rainier!  Great view from that area, always love the illuminated fall trees.

Cheers:   Tom
