This was much more interesting to actually look at than any photo can portrey, but I hoped to bring home a little of the wonder.  This tiny scene plays out millons of times as glaciers break down the mountains they travel down, collecting sediments as they go. These volcanic sediments will shortly fall to the black sand beaches near Jokulsarlon beach in southeast Iceland and become part of much wider view photos I'm sure sad. Composing and finding the right comp. was difficult due to close quarters in the ice and pieces of ice blocking the view. This section was a 75% cropof the original, maybe 8 x 10 inches. 6 images were blended for sharp focus throughout.

I too have been staring at these kind of structures, but never got a satisfying photo out of it. And all the people climbing on the ice blocks scared me away as well surprise. You did a fine job with this one! Maybe a slight crop from the bottom to remove the dark arc, which is a bit distracting to me.

Beautiful patterns. When ice gets these kinds of patterns it reminds me of fine crystal. Well seen and photographed.

Excellent work getting the exquisite patterns in the ice, Harry. I agree with Richard that it looks like fine cystal. The color looks good to me as well.

A really different view of a much photographed place - nicely done! And definitely worth the effort.

Nice color and patterns. I like the frozen swirl and motion. The title is great too. Beautiful work!
