Open Air Barbers

I recently returned from a trip to the Guizhou Province in southern China. A common sight on market days was open air barber shops. Here's a typical scene taken at the barber's area in Sandu, China. A few of the barbers indicated that they would give me a haircut for 5 Yuan (about 80 cents). I declined. Olympus E-M1, 12-40 lens at 12, 1/1250, f/4 and ISO 800. Richard

This is a wonderful travel shot, just love all the clumps of black hair on the ground, and the faces of those waiting. Really gives a good feel for this place.

I like this a lot.  It is so typical of what happens away from Beijing, Shanghai, and other modernized cities in China, although if you avoid tourist locations in those cities, you can easily find scenes like this.  Haircuts appear to be a big deal in China, not only in situations such as this but in businesses throughout the country.

Excellent cultural image, nicely showing a interesting side of life in that part of China. You passed on an $0.80 haircut? Such a deal! sad
