Sea Stack Sunset

This was taken along the Strait of Juan de Fuca in the Pacific Northwest.  The sun had set and it was starting to get dark so I bumped up the ISO to 800 and used a 15 sec exposure to smooth the water.  The purple sky with reflection on the water caught my eye.  Equipment and settings:  Nikon D800, Nikkor 24-70mm @ 40mm, f16, 15 sec, ISO 800, with tripod.

Nice use of the Belt of Venus, looks great. I do feel that the forest part to the right is a bit too light relative to the rest.

Whoa, like this image quite a bit. Besides darkening down the trees on the right as suggested, I would also suggest darkening down the foreground and see what results. Maybe even darken down the foreground rocks even a bit more than foreground ocean so one's eye is directed for that wonderful rock with the tree on it. What a nice capture for sure!

I really like this image. I like the composition, the colors, light, the soft water and the foreground rocks. Darkenling down the trees work also, but I like it as is.

Another finely crafted image, Gina. I'd agree with Roel's suggestion for a bit darker BG forest but other than that I got nothing ;-)
I really like the subtle color in the sky and water. Good choice on the SS.

This is a fine look at this sea stack.  The subtle colors in the sky and their reflections look great and I'm thoroughly enjoying imaging that stack as a sea monster having a bad hair day (given the round dark eye, the green mustache, and the mohawk...cool ).

Excellent Gina.  Love this stack and the colors are fabulous.  I agree with darkening the forest and doing whatever it takes to bring this stack to life, It is definately an incredible star.

What a lovely scene, just so reminiscent of a Japanese painting. Nice colors and good exposure time with lots of texture in the foreground. Wonderful color and details on the rock. Just gorgeous!

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions.  I'll try darkening the trees on the right (and maybe a little on the bottom) and re-posting.

A really interesting rock Gina! Those (airplane?) streaks in the sky are a bit distracting to me but fine image overall.

Hi Gina,

This image is rocking good, and I really enjoy looking at this one. You have some really fine suggestions with the darkening of the trees and bringing down the foreground just a little bit. Small tweaks that would make a great capture even greater!
