Summer's End

by Dennis Plank

Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted November 13, 201565 views7 comments
This is one from the fall of 2012.  When the first frosts hit, I've always considered summer at an end (though this wacky year, we haven't had one yet).

7D, 180mm f/3.5 macro, tripod, f/11, 1/50 sec, iso 400.  Processed in CS6.  Cropped to 15 MP from the right.  Taken October 4th, 2012.

Thanks,

So the web is encrusted with all these tiny ice crystals and the spider has left for a warmer place. In opening to the larger version of the image, one could be engrossed for quite a while in all those details. Well done, Dennis.

Got some beautiful symmetry going in this one Dennis, even though the frost missed a few spots.  I'm wondering how this would look with some backlighting from a rising sun.  Nice job!

Man, that's a great catch, Dennis.  I don't think I've ever seen a frosted spider web before.  You've got great details and dof throughout the web and that's always a major challenge with dew covered webs.  This is very well done.

Excellent image, Dennis. I've never seen, let alone photographed, a frost covered web. Like spokes on a wheel. Well photographed for the web and bg. Very, very cool. devil

The small version is really nice, but the larger version sings!  What an excellent catch.  The BG sets it off nicely too.  Love all the details of those ice crystals, and it does remind me of spokes in a wooden wheel.  Excellent work.

Man, this is a rare sight (at least for me) to see any frosted web, and I have never seen such a complete, good-looking one.  I'm glad you got such a sharp shot of it, with a nice smooth background.  Beautiful -- belongs on a Christmas tree! :D
