Monochrome Cannon Beach

Hi Everyone,
Here is the second in a series of black and white images that I'm working on.  I trying to put together a black and white portfolio that I will then "shop around" to show at one of several galleries in Portland.  My first image was "Lifespan," which you can see here.

This is the second, still unnamed but for now Monochrome Cannon Beach.  I am basically going in the reverse order that they were taken, and I'll share a half dozen or so more here over the coming weeks.  I'll be interested in which ones to keep and remove from the portfolio eventually,

For now, I'm just looking for feedback on composition, processessing, etc.  I have another version processed entirely in LR (and brighter) and can share that too.

Canon 5d3 with 16-35mm L
ISO 200, f 3.2, 1/25s
shot at a sunless sunset
BW Conversion in Nik with LR finishing

Great image Marylynne. The gradual contrasting layers from front to back make this shot for me...nice work.

I like the moodiness in this but I would be tempted to make the people disappear in PS.  That is a POV issue.

Although I usually dislike people in landscape photos, they work nicely to give a sense of scale here. Makes the rock a lot bigger than I expected! Very nice photo!

Oh, and I just saw the reposts in your other photo, and the last repo is the winner for me!

Thanks folks.  I'm still undecided about the people.  I usually do make them disappear, but here they were numerous, silhoutted and therefore less objectionable than someone in a teal jacket with a shopping bag or something.  I figured they not only lend scale but speak to the magic of the place...people in the dark, stormy weather, milling about nonetheless.

Does anyone feel a need for a brighter version?  I like this, but I am partial to darknesslaugh.

The darkness is good. As you have seen in a lot of my work, I appreciate dark and moody.  It is good for daytime images when golden hour is not at hand.
