As we shadowed one of the many Polar bears we encountered, this inquisitive Bearded seal decided to check us out. Taken towards the later part of the day from a zodiac.

Wow, fantastic shot of a species we normally don't get to see here.  The smooth textures, gray tones, large nostrils and eyes, and of course, those whiskers... what's not to like?

Steve,

the monochromatic mood and the intense stare say all. Well done.

Steve: I really like the soft tones, textures and the clean fore and back grounds you've captured in the portrait. The eye contact is a major plus. I'm curious as to what is the small green object is under the seal's whiskers. Is it a tag? Richard

Cheers Max. devil

Cay-Uwe, often a hint of colour is enough to give an image a bit more standout from the rest. cool

Richard, it's just the way the light hits the water, often from shoreline it's not hugely deep, or though there are 'shelves' that can drop off, however in a zodiac you do have to keep your eyes open for the shallows.

Thanks guys. crying

I think this is quite good, Stephen, for the effect you achieved emphasizing "smooth" texture and line in both water and seal.  The hint of reflected color is a great accent.  Well done!

Love the low angle on this and the eyes he is giving you Steve. It has a nice emotion to it. Good work.
