Red Shouldered Hawk #2

This is a follow up shot to the one I posted the other day. This one I shot in my backyard from about 25 feet away which is as close as I've ever been to a wild raptor. I was amazed at how relaxed he was, seemingly more interested in the little lizzards crawling around under him than the two of us standing there. Shot with the Olympus EM-5 MkII and a Nikon 300mm f4. Exposure was hand held, 1/400 at f5.6 and ISO 640.

Steve,

very nice colors, great pose and the eye pops out nicely. Also the background works for me since it does not appear to bright.  I may have considered to place the hawk more to the left on the image to have some open space in which it looks to.

Excellent image and detail! You could add a little room on the right easily enough, if you have it, or can make it.

Excellent detail in the hawk Steve and I too would like a bit more room in the direction the hawk is facing.  I would also liked to have had the tail included.

Excellent detail, Steve, and I like the pose.  As in your last post, I wish the tail were visible.

Impressive bird (and shot). Agree with May about the tail - hopefully you cut it of by mistake - if not, then we'll have to live with it cool. Cheers, Hans

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments. Yes, I cut the tail off by mistake when shooting. I should have raised the camera a hair which would've done it. Wish I could've backed up my standing postition a bit, but my back was already up against the side of the house. Here's a rework where I created a bit more background on the right. I then blurred and darkened it some.

Impressive portrait Steve, quite a steep angle and so for me, the tail missing isn't an issue. Personally I might just drop the exposure a little on the front, looks a bit bright set against the dark backdrop, however it would still have prominance IMHO.
