Oxbow Sunrise

Sept. 19 my second morning at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park was much colder and while fog over Jackson Lake was still promenant, Moran Peak stood majestically in the early morning rays of sunlight. The pink glow of the sunrise also gave the fog from Jackson Lake a beautiful color. A group of Canadian Geese are swimming downstream while others linger in the fog lifting of the water.

This origninal uncropped version of this panorama consists of 6 individual 22.5 megapixel images shot with Canon 5Diii at f-20, 1/6th of a second and ISO 100 using a 70mm lens yielding an image 18" x 45". The image as shown is:

  • 219 Megapixels
  • 13500 x 5400 pixels
  • 18" x 45" 300 ppi

Sweet!  The large version is a must see, on a large monitor.  The fog bank in the middle ground is perhaps the key element in this composition ... really nice with the soft pink hues.  The image seems to have quite a cyan cast to my eye.  That's my only nitpick.

This will make an impressive print. The pano format works very well for this scene. I agree with Jim on the cyan cast - and it seemsa bit rotated in cc.

Great thing about panoramas you got some real estate to lose. I would crop from the left and the bottom to make the mountains appear more dominant. Adjust the color cast and you have a beautiful image.

John,

Another beauty from an iconic location.  I agree with others about the cyan; mostly in the bottom part of image, below horizon.

I think the rotation is good in this one. ;-)  and I think Louis has a good idea with a crop. A little too much real estate in the lower left area?  As always, a subjective matter.
