Frosted Fern

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted November 30, 2015119 views11 comments
The last few leaflets of a bracken fern frond.  I liked the backlight on this and the two sun stars.

5D3, Canon 180mm f3.5 macro, tripod, f/25, 1/80, iso 400, aperrture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped slightly to eliminate a partial leaflet on the right and cleaned up a few left over frost tendrils that then went nowhere.  Taken at 8:47 am on November 25th.

I appreciate any and all comments and criticisms.

Thanks,

I like everything about this, especially the backlight and the stars.  The cold weather we are having has presented you with some great opportunities and you have taken advantage of it.

Excellent, Dennis. Very sharp. Great eye to see and capture the sunstars.

The combination of the white ice with the red leaves is great, but those sun stars are just too good to be true! They are the icing on the cake for sure. I really like this one.

The frost here looks nice and sharp, Dennis, and those two sunstars are an outstanding delight.  The reds in the leaflets from being backlit add a fine contrasting touch of warmth.

This is spectacular, Dennis.  It's so rare to see red in an image of icy foliage or branches.  I love the contrast of the red fern and the cool ice. The two starbursts off of ice crystals are, in my mind, totally inspired and perfectly rendered.  This is a true joy to look at.
