Beijing Smog

The smog in Beijing has been in the news lately.  I have been there several times and I have seen clear days and smoggy days.  Here is a shot taken from a taxi in 2008.  The three buildings are the headquarters of the public transportation department.  The buildings are less than a quarter mile from my vantage point.  My last visit was in 2009 and in the one year between visits there was a considerable increase in the number of motor vehicles on the roadways.  Winter smog inversions are a lot more frequent.  Not a good place to be for anyone with any respiratory ailment.

Your photo certainly shows the smog problem in China.  The shadowy buildings in the BG make the point very well.  TFS.

Hey David,
You are a true Photog, taking pictures from the back of a taxi.
Well documented illustration of the pollution problem in this city created by to many people in to small an area. The ironic thing in this image that makes me chuckle is the sprinkler system spraying water on the bushes in the median and the silver Honda in the center with it's windows down. It is very obvious from these two aspects that this smog problem is accepted as a normal way of life for these people which is very sad.
