Afternoon Delight #1

I went walking along the C&O canal last Saturday afternoon, hoping that there'd be some good sunset color.  While the cloudless sunset didn't cooperate, there were some fine reflection abstracts in the canal as the breeze came and went.  (7D2, 70-200 f2.8 @ 80mm, 1/30s, f/13, iso 400, tripod)

Wow! That's some crazy shapes and motion. Glad I'm sitting down...cool I remember the song "Afternoon Delight" from many years ago. Cool shot Mark!

Nice blue and golden tones with some wild shapes.  Good abstract.  Works better larger.

Mark,

For the life of me I can't recall the name or term.... those abstract drawings that if you stared a certain way or for long enough, one could see other shapes and things within the drawing.  It was a fad in the 80's or 90's I think.... Anyone remember what those were called?

Anyway, this is mind and eye bender for sure.  Very unique.  I am however having a hard time getting past the perception of being fuzzy or out of focus. I'm sure it's all motion blur or just the reflection, but it's taking away for me.  I love the color, patterns and abstract nature here, just not the motion.

Dazzling abstract Mark.  I am always draw into these intimate, abstract scenes.  Well seen and captured!

This is a wonderful combination of colors and shapes, Mark. What a great plan B when the sunset did not work out. I am on the fence with the water motion blur. I like this as posted, but I would be curious to see a different version with a faster SS if you have one.

The shapes and patterns throughout this reflection abstract are exceptional, Mark. Like several others, I find the motion blur distracting or almost dizzying. I'd prefer this sharper, so I could sit and stare and study the design, but if you were after a dizzying effect in addition to abstract pattern, you certainly got it.

Interesting ... My first thought was that you deliberately adjusted the focal length slightly during the exposure to achieve this effect.  But at 1/30th of a second, I guess that you would need an extremely quick hand to accomplish this.

Lots of crazy images in this reflection. The blue, gold and white are great colors. I did get a little dizzy first looking at it and wanted it to sit still.

Weird, I seem to see two abstract patterns juxtaposed on eachother, which makes this one even more interesting! Very nice, Mark!

Lon, Do you mean a Rorschach test??

Sorry folks, nothing with a faster shutter, but that's a good idea for next time.

This is pretty cool. Mark.  It is a lot like those brain teasers that Lon mentioned.  The pattern is like some reptilian skin rippling thru the water.  I like it.

Hi Mark,

I really enjoy the patterns and colors in this image, but the motion is making me a bit dizzy, lol. The blues and the golds work so well together, and it is rather interesting image for sure. Loving the creativity!!!

Mark, this one has the real "jitter" factor going on. It has such a sense of motion I had to take a Dramamine after viewing it....sad

A wonderful abstract and a good eye for spotting this one........devil
