Ran across this one in the old files and decided it was worth posting.  This is more of a field guide shot than an artistic one, but it shows the plumage on this handsome bird very well I think.  This bird tends to be a skulker in the underbrush, but does come out occasionally.  In this case it was visiting a ground feeding area I set up under a copse of small Douglas Firs with a blind handy.

7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu gimbal mounted to blind window, f/6.3, 1/160, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering with -1 stop compensation (I was also shooting chickadees and had it set to keep from blowing out their white cheek patches).  Minimal processing in LR5 & CS6.  Full frame.  Taken April 26th, 2013 at 7:17 am.

I appreciate all your comments on my hummingbird posts and look forward to your input on this one.

Thanks,

Beautifully detailed sparrow. The large image shows this well. The small image appears a bit dark and flat.

Nice one Dennis!  Shows the colors and markings of this sparrow.  I do think it could use just a tad of brightening.  thanks for sharing.

After reading the comments, I'm inclined to agree that the bird is a bit dark, so here's a repost with it lightened up a bit.

Nice.  I agree, an excellent field guide photo.  On my monitor it looks like it could go brighter?
