From icescapes to leafscapes. I liked the bright maple leaves against the green moss. Somewhere along the Merced River.

Yosemite Details #15
Nikon D7100
Nikkor DX 16-85mm
TK's Masks and Burn/Dodge layer.
Cropped, and the area above the mossy rock was burned down a bit.

Please see the large version. Thanks!

Thank you for comments on my recent postings! Your thoughts on this one will be appreciated. cool

I like this a lot, Preston.  I tried a few of these intimate leaf scapes this fall, without much success.  The moss and leaf color combo is really striking.  The composition looks perfect to me.  Oh yeah, I love the title too..sad

Preston,

Ahhh, so that's what you were doing over there!  Hey folks, I can attest that this area was literally overflowing with Big Leaf maple leaves.  So much so they covered the slippery wet rocks beneath - ankle breakers that both Preston and I nearly tumbled on.

Hey, I like this too Preston.  The combo of the moss and yellow leaves works very well.  I also like the spaciality (is that a word?) of the leaves top to bottom.  You did mention a crop?  I was wondering if there is any more room top, or bottom?  At the bottom, I wish that little slice of water was either not there, or just a tad more of it.  A skosh more room up top, but that's getting picky - I do like that we see the top of the mossy rock, so I wouldn't crop anything up top.  The only other minor suggestion is overall brightness. It's very minor and we could just be talking the difference between two different monitors, but perhaps even a 1/3 stop drop?

Well seen my friend.

Awesome stuff, Preston. I like the combo of yellow maple leaves against a backdrop of green moss. How do you like the 7100? Just wondering because my brother just bought one.

Just as with your last leaf photo, I like the illusion this one creates of a sort of waterfall with leaves. The big yellow leaf really stands out against the green moss, very nice.

Preston, What a wonderful combination of moss and leaves you found here. You did a nice job with the comp letting the natural beauty show so well. I could see less water or more water at the bottom as Lon mentioned but still quite enjoyable as is. NICE!

These leaves seem to flow downwards. There is that sense of movement that I find fascinating.

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

Based upon a couple of remarks about the amount of water at the bottom, I went back to the RAW file and went with this full frame crop. I removed some stuff on the right edge that was bothering me previously.
Hindsight being always 20/20, I should have used a slightly smaller focal length on my lens, and then cropped down to the final framing.

The large version is Here

I will appreciate any additional thoughts you may have. cool

Preston, This is a beautiful drift of leaves set off well by the mossy rock.  After some up/down scrolling, I prefer the original post just a bit because the extra water near the bottom is a subtle distraction.

I've always liked the juxtaposition of autumn yellow and vibrant green, and you've captured that in an appealing composition here.  I do agree with the comments and with you, that a slightly shorter focal length (or a slightly wider view) would have been ideal, or at least would have given you more options.

Nice mix of leaves and moss. I prefer the original post. I would be inclined to boost the yellow saturation a touch, but real minor stuff.

Hi Preston,

I like the original, and the gold and green combo works really well. The composition works very well for me with the leaves providing the interest for the eye to move through the image. A lovely intimate view!

Hey Preston.  Wonderful composition.  The moss on the rocks is so cool.  I feel like the color balance is too heavy on either green or yellow.  It feels like it needs a little red or magenta in the color balance.  But those are just my eyes and taste.
