More Big Leaf Maple leaves on a rock. This is the same location as #15. I liked the patterns, and the various colors of the leaves against the dark granite. This one was cropped a bit from the top and right side. I also cloned out some offending edge bits (border patrol, as Lon calls it).

Thank you for you comments on my recent post. They were appreciated, and I will appreciate your comments on this one, too. cool

Preston,
Very nice image. I find the composition well balanced and the understated warm tone colors very pleasing. Processing looks spot on.

The yellow big tooth maple leaves stand out well from the dark granite boulder, Preston. Looks nicely composed/cropped. Another fine image of intimate Yosemite.

Nice Preston!  A terrific collection and arrangement of Big Leaf maple leaves. That lone leaf up top/left works wonderfully as a place to rest the eye.  Color and processing spot on.

The only suggestion I have is a further crop from the right to eliminate the little square gray rock.  Even though it's darker, it seems to be pulling my eye there.  A crop would get rid of the empty dark area on the right leaving us more to explore the colors and detail of the leaves.

Even as presented, I like this very much.

Honestly ... this composition isn't working for me as well as most of the others in your Yosemite series.  I've been looking at it for awhile.  My attention is drawn to the upper left quadrant, and that one leaf separated from the others.  Perhaps a much tighter crop of that portion of the image, prominently featuring that leaf and including the leaves immediately surrounding it, would be a suggestion I'd offer for your consideration.

Preston, This is really well done. I like the comp as is and think both edges kind of balance with each other. The rock as a background works great and I'm enjoying the colors very much. Nice details in the large version along with what looks like perfect web sharpening. Excellent work!

This is a nice collection of leaves, Preston.  I do like the lone leaf top left as a place to rest the eye.  I don't think this is as strong as your last leaf scape, but it is very nicely seen.

A beautiful and nice collection of leaves. I've been looking at it for quiet some time - I've always fiund it hard to compose such scenes. I think you did a good job here and you have a balanced comp. The processing looks very natural.

I like this one even more - the tight crop on the leaves has good impact. Again, there is some sense of flowing or "falling" that make this classic take quite special and fresh.

Nice blast of color, but I find I have a wandering eye with the composition.

A wonderful splash of many colors. To me it's a bit too unstructured. My eye tends to roam without knowing where to rest. The green moss is a bit of an eye catcher which I would tame by desaturating it some. I thought your previous one was a bit superior to this. The processing, as always, is first rate.

Thank you for your comments!

Here is a version cropped to 4x5 ratio. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Preston,

Mucho better!  The tighter crop makes for a much stronger comp and actually makes the lone leaf even more of an anchor.  Excellent!

This improves things. It brings a lot more coherence to the comp.

I love leaf photos Preston, and big leaf maple leaves are a great subject.  I do feel like the top left is weak compared to the rest of the photo. I keep wishing to see more leaves in that corner.

Hi Preston,

I saw the repost below, and I am immediately drawn and engaged in that image. A beautiful display of colorful leaves, and the composition in the repost really helps the eye to concentrate in on the larger leaf, and explore the rest of the iamge.

beautiful work
