Looking Upstream through an Archway

taken w/ Canon EOS 7D w/ 18-55 IS STM
settings  f/11   1/25  ISO 400  24mm

Looking upstream through the stone arch at a tree stump in the pool beyond. The stream gives various textures as it flows downstream, along with the rocks and vegetation on its banks, gives an almost tactile sense to the scene. The day was overcast causing a prtoblem with white blowouts. Used a combination of exposure, highlites, tint, and a darkening brush to (try) finding a suitable balance between not blowing out the whites while not losing the shading for the photo. Hopefully what I did works.

comments and suggestions welcomed as always.

This is a nice, soothing scene.  I like the blurriness of the rushing water in the foreground.  I think you did a good job with the lighting adjustments.

I'm wondering if a tighter crop would make the image a little more interesting.  For me there is a lot going on and I find myself distracted by the green tree on the left.

Jim,

I think the results of your processing came out very well!  A sign of a well processed image is one that looks like it hasn't been processed! ;-)  You handled the areas of bright and shadows well.

I also like the scene and composition.  I would agree that perhaps you could crop some off the left - but mostly to eliminate the brighter rock on the left edge (or clone.)

For me, I'm mixed about the shutter speed.  This does work nicely as captured and I realize a longer shutter speed and your blown out highlights issue would have been more problematic. So I think you have a good compromise here.

A side note, this probably should be in Man & Nature. The mods must be on Christmas break.... angelenlightened

I like the color and the composition. A very nice scene. This might be personal taste, but I would like to see a bit more blur in the water so it is a bit more milky looking. Looking at the spects you could have gone down to 100 iso and lengthened the shutter speed to ge more blur or us an ND filter.
